Generations White Ale
General info | Pricing | Where to buy | First bottling The origins of the Belgian witbier (white beer) style can be traced to a 15th century monastery at what is now the Belgian town of Hoegaarden. It was here a brewing metropolis would emerge where by the 1800s there were 30 breweries all making witbier. The fragrant beer style was almost extinct by the early 1960s had not Pierre Celis bought the last "white" beer brewery in Hoegaarden and launched a revival of the style. By the mid-1980s several breweries in the region were making similar beers, but without the distinctive Curaçao orange peel and coriander spice. Today, Belgian witbier is gaining a large acceptance in the United States as a wonderful summer-time drink. Our Belgian-style Witbier has a zesty orange aroma, soft body and a hint of coriander spice throughout.
Founded in 1948 by John and Erma Alberhasky, John's Grocery is a marriage of the traditional corner grocery and epicurean oasis. This beer was produced to celebrate our 50th anniversary and the North-side of Iowa City's rich brewing tradition.
Winner: Silver medal 2007 Great American Beer Festival - Belgian-Style White/Wit |
